Who:
Youth and adults (members and non-members) are welcome to participate.
Climb Team kids will have options to compete during a separate registration: See link
The first 50 people to sign-up are guaranteed a spot in the competition. If full, the day of sign-ups will be contingent on the current capacity of the gym.
You may invite spectators but please be mindful of how many spectators you bring as the facility will remain open to the public during the comp.
When:
Friday, November 1st, 2024. All day.
This year we will be breaking the comp up into two different start windows, an Early Start Window (Before 3pm) and a Late Start Window (After 3pm) in order to disperse foot traffic on the day of the comp. You will get 3 hours to complete as many of the 14 designated routes as possible to score points for both start windows. However, we close at 9:30pm so if you sign up for the Late Start Window be sure to arrive before 6:30pm to get your full 3 hours.
What:
Our Half Tilt 2024 Climbing Competition is a Modified Redpoint Competition Format (see rules below for more details on how this works).
Don’t let the word “competition” scare you off — Half Tilt lets you experience a comp-style event in a friendly, relaxed environment: no crowds, no finals, as competitive (or not) as you want to make it. It’s a great way to dust off the competition cobwebs as we start to think about preparing for our Full Tilt Competition in February!
How:
This competition will be Auto Belay use only. There will be 14 new routes set specifically for this competition. When you arrive on the day of the competition, you will receive a scorecard from the front desk. A Roca Staff will record your start time on the top, and you will have 3 hours to attempt as many routes as possible. Points will be awarded only for routes you complete.
$$:
Early Start Window: $5
Late Start Window: $10
*Competition participation/entry fee does not include climbing day pass or rentals for those without a membership.

PRIOR TO COMPETITION:

DAY OF COMPETITION:
Sign-up at front desk
Rules
The 14 routes will be numbered/colored and clearly marked with large tags.
This is a modified Redpoint competition and you will receive points based on the colored “zones” that you successful reach with a controlled hold.
You must complete each competition route using an Auto Belay ONLY. Sends on top rope or lead belay will not count as completed.
You must send a route “clean” in order to score points for that route.
You may not use quickdraws or holds of other colors to assist you
If you fall on the Auto Belay at any time, you must return all the way to the ground
At least one adult in the gym (other participants, spectators, staff-if available) must see you successfully complete each route and must then sign off on your scorecard. Completed routes without a sign-off will not count toward your final score.
You will have no more than three hours to complete your competition climbing.
When you receive your scorecard from the Roca Front Desk Staff, they will record your start time at the top of your card. It will be up to you to keep track of time and turn your scorecard in before your 3 hours are complete. Scorecards not turned in on time will not be considered when determining standings.
You can complete your three hours of climbing at any point during the start window you register for
You will not be able to climb any competition routes until you have received your scorecard
The competition will be broken down into 3 divisions. All climbers will have access to the same 14 routes.
Bow Division (beginner): can consistently climb 5.5 to 5.9
Sword Division (intermediate): can consistently climb 5.9+ to 5.11-
Lance Division (open): can consistently climb 5.11 and above
Only your top 3 scores will count towards your final score. But we encourage you to climb as many routes as you can in the three hours.
Each climber will place themselves into the category they feel they belong in. Climbers may be moved based on the judge’s discretion.
